The western half of the island is full of fun adventures and has places ranging from commercial tourist towns to laid back ranches and secluded beaches. This rich diversity of activities and attractions makes visiting West Maui an enjoyable time. Many Maui vacation rental homes are also situated in West Maui, alongside several world-class luxury resorts, hotels, and smaller local boutique inns.

The small town of Lahaina has seen significant growth in recent years as more and more tourists travel out to West Maui. Once a fishing village and local hot spot, Lahaina today has theaters, national-brand restaurants, and dozens of tour operators that attract visitors to participate in water sports, sight seeing tours, and other ecotourism activities. Lahaina is also the gateway to the Kapalua resort community. Kapalua includes a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, exclusive villas, and some luxury real estate. Only the most discerning travelers can spend their vacation at the beautiful resort town. Kapalua and Lahaina together represent the beauty and inherent adventure that all tourists will find in Maui – a rich blend of heritage and modern day.

Millions of tourists arrive in Hawaii annually to begin their relaxing vacations or visit

family for a few weeks. These tourists need not know the historical background of

Hawaii nor do they need to know much about the intricate island culture. However, for

those people relocating to Hawaii, it is essential to understand where Hawaii came

from, where it is going, and why the culture is the way it is. British explorer James Cook

arrived in the islands in 1778, the first European to experience the region. Captain

Cook originally named his findings as the Sandwich Islands and returned to the islands

in 1779. However, upon his second return, the captain was killed by the native people.

Nevertheless, Cook’s books and other publications started the influx of European

visitors to Hawaii: explorers, traders, whalers, and eventually missionaries. The British

influence can still be seen through the inclusion of the Union Jack in the Hawaii state

flag. While Europeans brought increased attention to Hawaii, they also introduced

influenza, smallpox, and measles that natives did not have resistance to. Eventually,

Christian missionaries influenced King Kamehameha II to end human sacrifice and the

Kapu system and King Kamehameha III was the first Christian king of Hawaii. The

interesting arrival of whites to the Native Hawaiian society sparked a revolution of

culture and thought in Hawaii and eventually led to the introduction of western ideals

into the islands. Soon, people were wearing western clothing and practicing western

religion. In January 1893, Queen Liliuokalani was overthrown and the Republic of

Hawaii was begun. President McKinley annexed Hawaii in 1898, leading to Hawaii’s

statehood in 1959.

If you’re planning a vacation to Hawaii, set your sights on the island of Maui. Part of visiting a place is knowing its history. Hawaii was admitted into the Union as the 50th state on August 21, 1959. The 2008 census places Hawaii’s population at 1,288,198, with much of it centered around the capital city of Honolulu. These are just the basics, so onto the next step of Maui vacation planning.

Perhaps your vacation is already underway, and you’re sitting on the porch of your Maui vacation rental, surrounded by its extensive beauty. Everything is perfect, except that your boredom is so consuming you forget to enjoy the scenery. With so much beauty to see, spending your day bored is a terrible way to spend your vacation. To help with that problem, however, are a bunch of activities guaranteed to amuse you throughout the days.

Helicopter Tours in Maui:

Ambitious travelers want to see as much as they can before the vacation is through. East and west Maui are both visually stunning, and are impossible to see in one trip. Helicopter tours fix this problem, however, but conducting aerial tours of the entire island. Air Maui offers discounted helicopter tours, and companies like ALEXAIR Helicopter Tours and Sunshine Helicopters also offer tours.

Bring your camera as these tours give you views of Maui you would not be able to see otherwise. You’ll soar over the moon-like craters on Haleakala, and get the best views of the partially submerged Molokini, and the island of Kaho’olawe.

Snorkeling in Maui:

The best snorkeling experience would be taking the Molokini Maui snorkeling tour. This two stop morning tour utilizes The Frogman, a fifty-five food power catamaran, that takes you to Molokini for the island’s best snorkeling.

Limo-Van Tours:

Limo tours are the best idea for those looking to enjoy the views of Maui in ultimate comfort. With 6-8 guests per limo van, you’ll find yourself venturing out of your vacation rental and enjoying a tropical adventure with others. On this tour, you can picnic on Maui’s exotic beaches or stop at the Paia plantation for a bite to eat. While you can see much of Maui’s beauty up close, you will find that your exploration is limited to the paved roads.

Hiking Tours in Maui:

Those who like to feel nature encapsulating their bodies will definitely enjoy Maui’s hiking tours. The “WILD Adventure” Cave tour is perfect for the physical inclined, as it includes crawling, hiking, and climbing through various obstacles for a view of Maui’s best. This tour, however is available only to those who are 15 years and older. Ka’eleku Cavern, however, is accessible to all, and has many unique stalactites and stalagmites within it. Exercise caution, as there are no paved walkways, and you’ll definitely have to watch your head.

Maui Vacation Activity for Kids:

Those with children will definitely want to make sure they have a little fun as well. The Sugar Cane Train is a great idea, as it gives your vacation an antique vibe. With open-air coaches that are fun for children, they bring back the charm of olden Hawaii.

Maui Horse Tours:

Traveling horseback, with the wind racing through your hair is another way to bring old-fashion into your vacation. These tours offer some of the best views of Maui, ranging from sea cliffs to endless green pastures. Horseback tours on Maui aren’t limited to trails, and with the horse at your side, the island instantly becomes your playground.

Many tours on Maui offer refreshments or full lunches. Start planning your vacation now, or else your boredom will overshadow all the wonderful sights you can see in Maui.

Whether you’re on Hawaii for your wedding or just here for some tropical fun, there are numerous activities available. With so many options you may have a hard time choosing what to do. You could always join a tour, as you’ll get both transportation and information you may miss. Following is a guide to attractions on the islands.

Oahu Activities:

The most populated of the Hawaiian islands, Oahu is home to the capital city of Honolulu. On this island, you will find the world-famous Waikiki Beach, and some of Hawaii’s best shopping and nightlife.

Pearl Harbor is housed on this island. With a short ferry ride, you will be able to visit the USS Arizona Memorial, which is housed over the sunken ship. Be sure to arrive early, as lines can be long. On the island’s northern shore is the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you can learn much about the cultures scattered around the Pacific. While here, don’t forget to visit the North Shore’s beaches for dramatic waves and fun.

Dole Pineapple offers tours in the middle of the island, and while you’re here don’t forget to taste some of it’s ice cream. You may also want to visit Hilo Hatties for some aloha print wear, and to taste local coffee and macadamia nut treats. While on this island, you could also see Cirque Hawaii, the Diamond Head Volcano, and the Bishop Museum.

Maui Activities:

With the perfect mix of nature and fun activities, Maui is quickly becoming the most popular island to visit. While here, you may want to take the Sugar Cane Train that begins in Lahaina, or drive along the scenic road to Hana.

If you want to see nature, be sure to visit the Haleakala Crater, zipline through the air, or go hiking through Maui’s many mountains. While on the beach, you may want to snorkel, dive, or parasail on the clear blue waters. Whale watching during the winter months, however, is what Maui is best known for, so keep that in mind if visiting during those times.

Big Island Activities:

While a slow-paced island, the Big Island is bursting with volcanic activity. In A volcano tour is a great idea if you’re visiting this island, as it is home to the world’s most active volcano. To see this inspiring beauty, you can drive, hike or take a helicopter tour. Be sure to visit this island’s black sand beaches, a result of many volcano eruptions. Other great sites on this island include Kealakekua Bay, Waipio Valley and Mauna Kea.

You’ve got your bags packed, and tickets in hand, ready for your Maui adventure. From romantic getaways to family vacations, Maui is a great place to vacation for all kinds of people. This island has a multitude of activities for you to enjoy, that you may want some guidance to all the exciting adventuring awaiting your arrival.

First factor to consider, however, is the location of your lodgings. While Maui is a small island, it would be a hassle to travel across it just to do certain activities. Where you are staying will have a great effect on what activities are available, so take time to research what surrounds you.

Sailing is a popular activity available in Maui’s waters, and you may find yourself wanting to plan a sailing adventure. Experienced sailors may rent a sail boat and harness the power of the winds. Visitors that see sailing as a new experience, can book a reservation on a chartered sailboat. This way, they can sit back and relax, as the boat glides effortlessly over the waters.

Another activity on Maui is whale watching, an experience that you will never forget. Whale watching, however, is a seasonal activity. Between the months of December and May, humpback whales travel to the warm waters around Hawaii to mate and raise their young. If you are visiting Maui during these times, be sure to look at the many boating companies that offer whale watching cruises.

There are a number of land activities available on Maui as well. Guided helicopter tours are particularly popular. Often affordably priced, helicopter tours allow you to view Maui from the air. Those who would like to stay on land, but still want to see all of Maui’s beauty can take a horseback ride along the coast, or hike upon its many ridges. No matter where your overnight accommodations are located, there are a number of national parks and attractions scattered around the island.

Maui is home to a number of national parks, but perhaps one of the most exciting is the Haleakala Crater National Park. This park is home to the world’s largest dormant volcano, and is truly a sight to behold, The best feature of this park is that you may explore it by car, foot, or bike.

If your lodgings are located in or near Lahaina, be sure to visit this historic town. While it has a rich history, Lahaina is also home to one of the world’s largest banyan trees. You can also find great shopping, as well as many restaurants, while exploring the streets of this town.

If staying on Maui’s southern shore, be sure to visit Molokini. Located three miles from Maui’s shore, this island is home to many Maui activities, particularly scuba diving or snorkeling. This is the perfect place to be if looking for an exciting underwater adventure. Best of all, anyone can join in on the fun.

The Maui attractions you will be able to visit depends heavily on which part of Maui you are staying at. Be sure to research what’s available around your lodgings or vacation rental.

If you’re in the process of planning a Maui vacation, and have yet to decide your lodgings, consider seriously the use of a Maui vacation condo rental. There are many benefits associated with renting a condo, but those renting for the first time may find the process seem complicated. Finding the best condo rental for your needs can be difficult, and for that, there are five tips outlined below to ease your decision making.

1 - Location

Maui is a popular vacation spot for people all over the world. A fairly large island, it is important that you decide which area of Maui you are most interested in visiting. By doing this, you can save time and money that may add up from unnecessary travel.

2 - Nearby Activities

Part of your decision making is the activities that are available around your Maui condo, and the best way to figure this out is examining activities and attractions. Be sure to request free Maui vacation guides and look on the internet to find comprehensive information about what’s available to do. Maui is home to some breathtaking sites, such as the Haleakala Crater National Park and the Iao Valley State Park. If you’re interested in swimming, scuba diving or surfing, be sure to look for a condo that would be close to the beach.

3 - Vacation Condo Rules and Restrictions

Once you’ve determined where in Maui you would like to spend your vacation, the next step is examining the vacation condos available. While looking at different condos, be sure to thoroughly examine condo rental rules and restrictions. Many condos have rules and restrictions, and while they may vary, you may find restrictions such as the maximum guest allowance, adult only condos and more. Examining the rules ahead of time will eliminate any confusion later on.

4 - Vacation Condo Features and Amenities

The features and amenities in a condo are equally as important as the restrictions set. In many condos, you are likely to find cable or satellite television, internet access, and a fully function kitchen. The greatest part about a Maui condo rental is that they enable you to have the vacation of your dreams. If, for example, you are looking to take in Maui’s full beauty, you can pick a condo by the beach or nestled in the mountains.

5 - Cost

The cost of the rental is the most important part to take into consideration, and will play a great role in your selection process. Determining the amount you can spend on a vacation rental will save you time, as it eliminates rentals that are out of your price range. It is important to include other fees while looking for condos, such as the security deposit or cleaning fee, so that there are no surprises when you are billed.

These are just a few of the factors that you should consider while planning your Maui vacation. Examine as many condos as possible, so that you can ensure you will find the condo of your dreams.
