Whether you’re on Hawaii for your wedding or just here for some tropical fun, there are numerous activities available. With so many options you may have a hard time choosing what to do. You could always join a tour, as you’ll get both transportation and information you may miss. Following is a guide to attractions on the islands.
Oahu Activities:
The most populated of the Hawaiian islands, Oahu is home to the capital city of Honolulu. On this island, you will find the world-famous Waikiki Beach, and some of Hawaii’s best shopping and nightlife.
Pearl Harbor is housed on this island. With a short ferry ride, you will be able to visit the USS Arizona Memorial, which is housed over the sunken ship. Be sure to arrive early, as lines can be long. On the island’s northern shore is the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you can learn much about the cultures scattered around the Pacific. While here, don’t forget to visit the North Shore’s beaches for dramatic waves and fun.
Dole Pineapple offers tours in the middle of the island, and while you’re here don’t forget to taste some of it’s ice cream. You may also want to visit Hilo Hatties for some aloha print wear, and to taste local coffee and macadamia nut treats. While on this island, you could also see Cirque Hawaii, the Diamond Head Volcano, and the Bishop Museum.
Maui Activities:
With the perfect mix of nature and fun activities, Maui is quickly becoming the most popular island to visit. While here, you may want to take the Sugar Cane Train that begins in Lahaina, or drive along the scenic road to Hana.
If you want to see nature, be sure to visit the Haleakala Crater, zipline through the air, or go hiking through Maui’s many mountains. While on the beach, you may want to snorkel, dive, or parasail on the clear blue waters. Whale watching during the winter months, however, is what Maui is best known for, so keep that in mind if visiting during those times.
Big Island Activities:
While a slow-paced island, the Big Island is bursting with volcanic activity. In A volcano tour is a great idea if you’re visiting this island, as it is home to the world’s most active volcano. To see this inspiring beauty, you can drive, hike or take a helicopter tour. Be sure to visit this island’s black sand beaches, a result of many volcano eruptions. Other great sites on this island include Kealakekua Bay, Waipio Valley and Mauna Kea.
Kauai Activities:
Kauai may not have Oahu’s exciting nightlife, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful islands. Nicknamed the Garden Isle, Kauai is full of lush greenery. You can take the Wailua River cruise to see the hidden Fern Grotto.
The Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon, is found on Kauai. You can take a helicopter tour to explore this brilliantly red depths of this canyon. You could also the Na Pali coastline and view its towering cliffs from sea and sky.
Molokai Activities:
Molokai is just as beautiful as the other islands, and one of the most rural. Here, you can see Hawaii’s tallest waterfall, or hike into pristine Hawaiian rainforests. Kalaupapa is on this island’s northern shore, accessible by mule.
Lanai Activities:
On Lanai, you can rent an ATV and explore the island at your leisure. Hiking and surfing are very popular on this island.
