A visit to West Maui can possibly be one of the most relaxing experiences for tourists who land on Maui. The western half of the island is full of fun adventures and has places ranging from commercial tourist towns to laid back ranches and secluded beaches. This rich diversity of activities and attractions makes visiting West Maui an enjoyable time. Many Maui vacation rental homes are also situated in West Maui, alongside several world-class luxury resorts, hotels, and smaller local boutique inns.
The small town of Lahaina has seen significant growth in recent years as more and more tourists travel out to West Maui. Once a fishing village and local hot spot, Lahaina today has theaters, national-brand restaurants, and dozens of tour operators that attract visitors to participate in water sports, sight seeing tours, and other ecotourism activities. Lahaina is also the gateway to the Kapalua resort community. Kapalua includes a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, exclusive villas, and some luxury real estate. Only the most discerning travelers can spend their vacation at the beautiful resort town. Kapalua and Lahaina together represent the beauty and inherent adventure that all tourists will find in Maui – a rich blend of heritage and modern day.

With a population of about 118,000, Maui is the third most populous of the Hawaiian Islands, but it is the second largest of the islands in terms of land area. Although Maui may not offer quite as much as Oahu, which is home to both Waikiki and Honolulu, Maui is still one of the more popular islands to travel to for vacations due to its beautiful scenery and more paradise-like atmosphere. Nevertheless, Maui still offers its own substantial variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment opportunities.
Although Maui is home to numerous luxury hotels that offer everything any tourist would ever need, there are still many great activities that make Maui such a popular tourist destination. Because of its pristine beauty both on land and in the sea, Maui offers excellent outdoor activities such as biking, diving, hiking, swimming, whale watching, snorkeling, and just driving around to sightsee. Places such as Haleakala National Park are popular destinations for many of these outdoor attractions. Attending a luau at places such as the Old Lahaina Luau is another popular attraction where visitors can enjoy tasty local cuisine accompanied by Hawaiian music, hula, and even fire dancing. There are also many great restaurants located throughout the island that offer cuisines from all over the world, but what makes the restaurants on Maui special is the fact that many of them use locally grown ingredients farmed right there in Maui. Maui also offers a unique shopping experience with shops from designer brands to local shops offering hand made arts and crafts.
